Oviraptor

About Oviraptor

There is much dispute about Oviraptor and its lifestyle and eating habits. It was first discovered and named in 1923. The skeleton was found among eggs, and looked as though it might have died while raiding the nest. The name Oviraptor means "egg hunter." However, many scientists believe that Oviraptor was actually protecting its own nest, and not eating the eggs. Oviraptor did not have any teeth but instead was equipped with a powerful parrot-like beak that could have been used to crack the hard shells of dinosaur eggs. It is, however, possible that this beak was instead used to crack nuts. The body of Oviraptor was much like that of other raptors of the period, with strong hind legs, short upper arms, and sharp claws.
