About
Huayangosaurus
Huayangosaurus belongs to a group of smaller plated dinosaurs known as the huayangosauridaes. These dinosaurs tended to live earlier (around the Jurassic Period) then their larger cousins. They also have only been found in Asia.
Many scientists believe that the later plated dinosaurs may have evolved from these earlier smaller animals.
Huayangosaurus had a series of plates running down its back, which gradually turned into spikes as they neared the tail. The tail ended with four large sharp spikes that could be used in fights to defend itself.
Huayangosaurus had a long slender head, short front legs, and longer hind legs, helping its head to easily reach the ground, as it looked for plant life to munch on.
