About
Sauropelta
Sauropelta is one of the best known of the armored dinosaurs. There have been a large number of good Sauropelta fossils found since it was originally discovered and named in 1970 by John Ostrom. These fossils include a number of bones, armored plates, a broken skull, and one complete skeleton.
Like many other armored dinosaurs, Sauropelta did not have any front teeth. Instead, there were a number of small teeth located further back in the mouth. In place of front teeth, this dinosaur had a beak.
Sauropelta was covered with body armor. These bony plates were embedded in the dinosaurs skin, and were not connected to its actual skeleton. Some of these bony studs were covered with a horn, making large weapons.
