About
Polacanthus
Polacanthus is one of the earliest armored dinosaurs to have evolved without a tail club, although some new evidence suggests that Polacanthus may have in fact possessed a tail club.
Polacanthus was discovered along the coast of England where wind and waves have eroded the coastline, leaving the fossils of this dinosaur exposed. It was discovered in 1865 by William Fox, and named by Richard Owen in 1867.
Polacanthus probably had long sharp horns along its neck near its head, which would have served to protect it from enemies. Shorter spikes extruded out of its back and tail.
