About
Saurornithoides
The name Saurornithoides, which means bird-like reptile, was given to this dinosaur by Henry Fairfield in 1924. At that time many thought that the skeleton was that of an early toothed bird. However, further study and additional fossils suggest that it was a raptor-like dinosaur.
Saurornithoides was nocturnal, meaning that it hunted at night. This would have given it a huge advantage over its prey, which were largely cold-blooded.
Cold-blooded animals cannot move quickly when their bodies are cold. They become much slower as the evening progresses, and must wait for the sunlight to warm them before they can become active again.
