About
Scelidosaurus
Scelidosaurus lived a very long time ago, during the Early Jurassic Period. It is one of the first armored dinosaurs to have appeared on Earth. Because many other armored dinosaurs have similar features, it is believed that Scelidosaurus might have been their common ancestor.
This dinosaur was discovered in 1859 and later named by Richard Owen. It had a beak-like mouth, with bony horns around its head. Running down its back were another set of bony studs, or nodes.
The hind legs of Scelidosaurus were longer than its front legs, making its back slant upwards towards its rear as it walked. Scelidosaurus was a plant eater, and probably spent most of its life in search of food.
