About
Scutellosaurus
Scutellosaurus roamed the North American Continent around 208 million years ago. This early member of the Scutellosaurus, or armored dinosaur group may have been the common ancestor of later armored dinosaurs.
Scutellosaurus was a small dinosaur, and in many ways resembled a modern-day lizard. However, the body of Scutellosaurus was actually much different that those of the lizards we see today.
It was covered is hundreds of small thorns or studs known as scutes.
These scutes were embedded in the animals skin, and did not actually connect with the inner skeleton.
The head of Scutellosaurus was also protected by a bony plate. The hind-legs of Scutellosaurus were powerful, allowing it to run very quickly.
It is believed that Scutellosaurus was a plant eater, spending its day in search of food.
